HUB IDEA

HABBE, comprising Nar Science, Culture and Art Association and Dersim Yenigün Women Solidarity Association, is a collaborative partnership committed to promoting women’s rights and cultural engagement. Through this alliance, they aim to empower their members, enhance knowledge sharing, and amplify their collective voice in society. Their joint activity programme focuses on organising short film screenings that shed light on women’s challenges and societal issues. Interviews with film directors and viewers will document the process. These discussions will take place in two different cities, fostering dialogue and cultural exchange. The hub seeks to make women directors’ struggles visible and encourage public debate, ultimately generating ideas and strategies for addressing these challenges among the audience.

Nar Science, Culture and Art Association was founded in 2010. Although the city we live in has a deep-rooted history and cultural accumulation from the past, it is seriously inadequate in terms of appropriating this cultural and historical accumulation to the people of the city. We believe that the progressive values accumulated by humanity all over Turkey and the world, as well as all the positive accumulation in the field of culture, art and science should be brought together within the life of this city. In this respect, we bring together the richness that emerges in every field of art, from literature to cinema, from photography to painting, from theatre to music, with the people of the city as much as possible and we carry out new productions that will carry this accumulation forward.

Since 2012, our association has been working with economically disadvantaged women and children, and victims of physical and sexual violence in Tunceli province. We aim to raise women's awareness on poverty, gender-based discrimination and violence, to organise solidarity networks among women and to create the grounds to fight together against those problems. Our association sometimes organises small meetings with groups of five or seminars where 50 women living in the same neighbourhood come together.

Expectations from Transnational Exchange

The main motivations of our project are to bring more audiences to short films, which cannot meet with audiences outside of festivals despite the great effort behind them; to draw attention to the difficulties experienced by women directors in this field; and to discuss the possibility of another life for women in today's world, where gender inequality is on the rise and a secure life for women (at home, at work, on the street) is increasingly endangered.
Transnational partnerships will positively influence the discovery of new ideas and works, and the sharing of knowledge and experience in different cultures. In addition to the uniqueness of the discussions in two different cities, we would like to share this experience with women living in other countries (especially migrants/refugees). This experience will help us to discuss the systematic problems faced by women working in cinema in particular (and in daily life in general) in a broader perspective and to search for solutions on a more righteous ground.
