HUB IDEA

Hubban, a collaborative initiative between two urban-focused organisations, aims to explore the dynamics of ever-changing refugee communities in major cities in Turkey. With a particular focus on how these communities shape and reshape urban environments, the hub seeks to map connections, intersections, and encounters between different generations of refugees. Their approach spans various cultural aspects, from culinary practices to performance art, to contribute to integrating newly emerged communities into urban life. By emphasising the importance of recognizing these communities as integral parts of the city, Hubban aims to foster cultural exchanges and partnerships, creating bridges between diverse cultures that have migrated to the same urban setting. In doing so, they aspire to contribute to mutual development, social cohesion, and the establishment of cultural encounters on a systemic level.

Urban.koop is a collective network of independent urban practitioners. The cooperative aims to create a common work sphere for researchers and experts from diverse academic and institutional backgrounds. It provides a network where innovative urban policies, strategies, designs, and practices are collectively created by sharing social resources. Primary methodology in Urban.koop’s work is building bridges between independent experts and different strata of civil society, academia, and local governments. Our project approach is based on institutional participation where we aim to build a collaborative institutional interface for the urban researchers, designers, artists, space makers, and creative workforce.

Expectations from Transnational Exchange

Since our general hub concept is about focusing on migrant communities, our intention is to establish relevant and sustainable connections with other organizations working on cultural integration and on communities living in crisis zones. We strongly believe that VAHA partnerships could be a jumpstart for this kind of approach, working with refugee groups through cultural development for social cohesion, and we can scale up this idea with the transnational stage to learn more from others, to execute better together and to implement bigger for future. Especially in the context of different and separate communities on a wider scale, it is important for our hub to build bridges with the recently mobilized refugees residing in Turkey and international organizations from relevant countries could help us establish those bridges and further connections.
