The theatre group THEAMA – Theatre for the Disabled – is the first professional theatre ensemble mainly composed of disabled artists, established in Athens in 2010. They are all members of the Greek Association of Actors, asserting their right to equal representation in the performing arts. THEAMA applies an inclusive concept so actors/performers with no disability are also part of the ensemble, and it operates a Drama Workshop for all aspiring to establish the first-of-its-kind Drama Academy within an inclusive framework for disabled and non-disabled artists. THEAMA actively contributed to revoking a Presidential Decree enforced by the Greek Ministry of Culture in the past and prevented disabled persons from enrolling and graduating from Higher Drama Academies. THEAMA is also proactively engaged in the major challenge of accessibility to the arts. All venues should be accessible for the audiences and backstage for the artists with mobility disabilities.

TRANSNATIONAL EXCHANGE IDEA

Çarşema Zîpa: Voices of Tradition and Inclusion

A transnational exchange amongst LabHub, THEAMA, and Lesvos Solidarity to foster cultural preservation, inclusion, and empowerment for marginalised communities through four key activities.

Cultural Film Screening & Discussion
LabHub will screen a documentary on Kurdish heritage, sparking discussions on preserving cultural identities. This aims to deepen understanding and appreciation of Kurdish traditions.
Inclusive Theatre Workshop
THEAMA will lead a workshop on inclusive theatre, starting with the film “We All Come From Somewhere.” The workshop will educate participants on creating accessible artistic expressions, enhancing skills in inclusive productions, and promoting the representation of disabled artists and refugees.
Storytelling Workshop
THEAMA and LabHub will facilitate a storytelling workshop, empowering participants to share their narratives. This activity aims to collect powerful refugee stories, providing a platform for self-expression and fostering a sense of community.
Puppet Creation Workshops
Solidarity Lesvos, in cooperation with LabHub & THEAMA, will lead workshops where participants will create puppets from recycled materials. These puppets will integrate cultural traditions and personal stories, made accessible to the blind through tactile elements and audio recordings. This promotes cultural preservation and inclusion.

Through these activities, our partnership bridges cultural gaps, promotes inclusion, and embodies solidarity and mutual respect to create a more inclusive world.

Çarşema Zîpa: Voices of Tradition and Inclusion is created in partnership with Lesvos Solidarity from Mytilini and LabHub, from Diyarbakır, Mardin and Batman.
