Phase 1*

The goal of the hub is mutual support and assistance in adaptation to changing socio-political conditions. Recent years have been difficult for pro-democratic and pro-social organisations in Poland. The access to funds is difficult, and the actions are often slandered in the public media. Local activists are often ostracised by national authorities. Until then, the time of the pandemic aggravated the problems of some organisations. The survivors often struggle not only with financial problems, but also with discouragement and a lack of motivation.

The hub conducted a series of interviews with Wrocław activists, artists, representatives of local NGOs, which tried to better and more widely diagnose the situation in which the civil society in Poland is located. The hub focused in particular on artists and representatives of cultural institutions, because it is often culture that first resonates with social problems. The hub conducted about 8 interviews, on the basis of which a short documentary prepared giving voice to activists. Each of them shared their plan/strategy for survival, which may be an inspiration for those who are obviously discouraged. The aim of the activity was to support local representatives of the civil society.

ART TRANSPARENT
arttransparent.org/
ART TRANSPARENT Foundation was originated in 2005 in Wrocław. The Foundation’s goals regarding contemporary art and social topics are being achieved by means of local and national projects as well as own initiatives and attempts to consolidate the intellectual environment around current social and art problems. The Foundation finds it particularly important to emphasize the special role of contemporary art in the process of social development - therefore it engages in initiatives with a social, educational and anti-discriminatory character, as well as those which are an attempt to face the problem of memory and trauma of a difficult past.
