Bridgeworks is an interdisciplinary artist network and cooperation office dedicated to transcultural artistic exchange. Based on principles of curiosity and meaningful dialogue, it facilitates international and interdisciplinary productions at the intersection of performing arts, literature, film, and music. Through its creative work, Bridgeworks explores sustainable social futures and challenges stereotypes and prejudices, fostering connection and understanding through art.

Functioning as a creative infrastructure for global cooperation, Bridgeworks provides structural support to artists, offering project facilitation, knowledge sharing, and artistic space-making. With a strong focus on transparency and authenticity, it opens up its creative processes—including both successes and failures—to broader audiences. Through workshops in cultural education, the initiative also fosters engagement with local and international communities alike.

Hubban, a collaborative initiative between two urban-focused organisations, aims to explore the dynamics of ever-changing refugee communities in major cities in Turkey. With a particular focus on how these communities shape and reshape urban environments, the hub seeks to map connections, intersections, and encounters between different generations of refugees. Their approach spans various cultural aspects, from culinary practices to performance art, to contribute to integrating newly emerged communities into urban life. By emphasising the importance of recognizing these communities as integral parts of the city, Hubban aims to foster cultural exchanges and partnerships, creating bridges between diverse cultures that have migrated to the same urban setting. In doing so, they aspire to contribute to mutual development, social cohesion, and the establishment of cultural encounters on a systemic level.

TRANSNATIONAL EXCHANGE IDEA

TOWARD | H O M E | AWAY

An interdisciplinary team of artists from Germany and Turkey will hold a week-long workshop under the theme “home away”, culminating in a public site-specific performance. Involving performance, music, dance, and video art.

The workshop and performance are planned to occur on a public site relevant to Hubban’s aims and targets, therefore spaces of daily solidarity amongst migrant communities will be targeted. The theme “home away” is preferred to reflect the social reality of migrant artists who are the target group of the Hubban Project.
The workshop and the performance will include two main activities;
enabling an interdisciplinary group of Hubban and Bridgeworks artists from different artistic fields to work and co-create together, developing the performance concept throughout the week
the site will be redesigned by Urban.koop and AnkarAks with minor place-making interventions. The urban design process will be parallel to the workshop; according to the needs of the performance

The project also may include local community workshops and it is planned to be performed to a live audience and will be recorded for documentation and communication purposes.

TOWARD | H O M E | AWAY is part of a three-month process-oriented research between the core team of bridgeworks from Berlin and Hubban from Ankara and Istanbul.
