Danscentrumjette (DCJ) is a contemporary dance center located in Molenbeek, Brussels. Founded in 1997 by Roxane Huilmand and Wolfgang Kolb, the center has operated in its own dedicated space since 2000. In 2023, Giulia Vitiello joined as coordinator, contributing to DCJ’s evolving structure and vision.

DCJ organizes a wide range of activities, including training programs, residencies, platforms, festivals, and collaborative events, working in partnership with both national and international organizations. The center facilitates artistic exchange and nurtures creative partnerships among individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.

Bridging the local neighborhood with the global contemporary dance scene, DCJ fosters an inclusive environment where professional and amateur dancers, children and adults, and bodies of all abilities are invited to move, learn, and create together.

Beyond dance as performance, DCJ emphasizes radical pedagogy, transmission, and collective development, making use of informal spaces like the kitchen or mezzanine to encourage dialogue, community, and creative exploration. It stands as a transversal platform that redefines how contemporary dance is practiced, shared, and sustained.

SARP (Samanlı ART and PROTECTION), composed of Kayınormanı Association and Çıplak Ayaklar Kumpanyası (ÇAK), endeavours to deepen their understanding of their rural environment. By collaborating with experts, they collect data on local flora, forest science, medicinal plants, and mushroom diversity. This knowledge is shared with the community, fostering a connection between art and nature. SARP’s activities aim to encourage dialogue on environmental conservation, sustainability, and the fusion of art and nature, inspiring positive change and a commitment to the natural world.

TRANSNATIONAL EXCHANGE IDEA

tohum/seed

Danscentrumjette and the SARP hub are engaged in an exchange program focused on listening, connecting, and building bridges. They aim to draw inspiration from each other's practices while exploring new perspectives through reciprocal visits. They embark on a journey that stretches from rural landscapes, movement-based research in the field, and links to urban communities and dance studios in Brussels and Istanbul.

The activities will take place in various settings, including the studios of Danscentrumjette (dcj) and Çak, as well as outdoors and in rural environments. Collaborative movement research will be conducted in nature, in the field, and visiting existing collectives. The exploration, outcomes, and artistic practices will be shared through presentations, workshops, and open sessions in both Brussels and Istanbul.

tohum/seed is created in partnership with SARP from Istanbul and Bursa.
