Following the earthquake, the establishment of the Kömür Culture and Art Centre marked a significant step in creating a safe and creative space for children and youth. Over the coming year, the Children First Association and project partners are working to transform this centre into a sustainable cultural hub. The Huner Hub will focus on three key areas: music, theatre, and creativity. Music education—led by Ma Music Centre—will include rhythm and choir workshops, culminating in student-led performances. Theatre workshops guided by Amed City Theatre will support the formation of a youth theatre group capable of producing its own plays. Meanwhile, creativity workshops will introduce photography, drawing, and caricature to young people aged 14–18. These long-term activities aim to foster artistic expression, community connection, and cultural continuity in Kömür.

TRANSNATIONAL EXCHANGE IDEA

Amed Roots centres on the co-creation of an innovative “treasure hunt” for children, celebrating Kurdish culture and heritage in Diyarbakır. Through a carefully structured process spanning from October 2025 to March 2026, partners will collaborate on every stage—from content development and design to testing and dissemination. Drawing on local traditions of dance, music, poetry, and crafts, the exchange involves local cultural institutions in shaping an engaging educational experience. A short documentary will capture the process and its community impact, later presented at House!’s Festival of Walks in Maribor. With the final launch at Huner Hub in February 2026, the exchange combines creativity, collaboration, and cultural preservation to inspire younger generations and strengthen local participation.

The exchange will create an innovative treasure hunt tool designed to engage children in Diyarbakır with Kurdish cultural heritage, fostering curiosity, creativity, and a sense of belonging. A short documentary will accompany the process, reflecting the spirit of transnational collaboration and highlighting the social and cultural value of working across borders.

Through these activities, the initiative will nurture local partnerships and build lasting bridges between cultural organisations. It will strengthen professional capacities in intercultural collaboration, creative education, and heritage interpretation, while inspiring new ways of connecting communities through play, storytelling, and shared cultural memory.

Amed Roots is created in collaboration with Huner Hub.
