The work aims to foster meaningful exchanges across differences, using theatre as a space for dialogue and shared reflection.
For over six decades, Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium has been a driving force in contemporary performing arts, offering residencies, teaching programmes, international collaborations, and festivals. PlayRoots, a partnership between Dîwan Academy and Batman Yenisahne, focuses on the research and preservation of Kurdish spectacles and rituals through theatre. Their common goals, past collaborations, geographical proximity and commitment to regional traditions form the basis of their co-operation. They aim to explore traditional Kurdish plays, host performances and document these cultural experiences to promote cultural appreciation and social cohesion.
								TRANSNATIONAL EXCHANGE IDEA
PLAY LABIn August, PlayRoots Hub will utilise their mobility grant to attend NTL-OT’s annual theatre arts research platform, “Act How.” During this intense and exciting two-week period, PlayRoots Hub will engage deeply with the artists of Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium, including the legendary actors of Odin Teatret. The series of workshops will provide PlayRoots Hub with the opportunity to learn from our experienced artists and, importantly, to share traditional Kurdish theatre both within our theatre space and with the local community in Holstebro.
Following this enriching initial exchange, two of Odin Teatret’s actors will travel to Batman in the autumn. There, they will conduct a masterclass for PlayRoots Hub and other local theatres, as well as for community members interested in theatre. This masterclass will not only enhance the skills and knowledge of the participants but also foster a deeper cultural exchange and understanding.
The time spent in Batman will allow Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium-Odin Teatret and PlayRoots Hub to immerse themselves in the local theatre scene and community. This mutual engagement will lay the groundwork for planning further collaborative activities and projects, strengthening the relationship and paving the way for ongoing intercultural dialogue and creative partnerships.
PLAY LAB is created in partnership with PlayRoots from Batman.
