Shareradio is a Milan-based web radio promoting social cohesion through participatory media since 2009. Operating in underserved neighbourhoods, it engages youth, schools, and vulnerable groups through citizen journalism and media education. With 25 local editorial offices, Shareradio contributes to urban regeneration and community-based projects. Its recent initiative, Solar Vibes CARGO FLOTTA, features solar-powered cargo bikes used for street workshops, festivals, and educational events. Combining sustainability, creativity, and activism, these mobile hubs demonstrate how low-carbon tools can drive social innovation and neighbourhood connection.

Centred in Bursa, hemsâye fosters community engagement with urban commons through cultural gatherings, artistic co-production, and public dialogue. Guided by the themes of “Preserving the Urban Commons", “Transforming Spaces”, and “Resisting Urban Injustice” the initiative brings together residents, activists, and artists to reflect on local struggles and reimagine shared spaces. Community dinners and neighbourhood meetings serve as platforms for exchanging stories and ideas, which artists then translate into creative works. The project culminates in a participatory exhibition that presents these narratives through an artistic lens, emphasising hope, resistance, and collective memory. Led by Yekpare, Roof Coliving, and Tamirhane Community, the hub creates space for collaboration, cultural expression, and grassroots action.
								TRANSNATIONAL EXCHANGE IDEA
Shared Frequencies connects cultural hubs in Milan, Istanbul, and Bursa to explore how citizens reclaim their right to the city through radio, sound, and collective storytelling. The project unfolds in four phases—community research, shared training, collaborative audio production, and public presentations—to foster dialogue across borders. Beginning with local engagement on urban issues such as housing, participation, and public space, the partners will co-create two audio documentaries reflecting both the similarities and differences between Italy and Turkey. The results will be shared through public events and live broadcasts in Istanbul and Bursa, amplifying community voices with the support of Açık Radio and Radio Popolare. By merging art, activism, and sound, Shared Frequencies strengthens cross-cultural collaboration and reimagines how people connect to their cities. The exchange will strengthen collaboration between cultural organisations in Turkey and Italy, fostering shared methodologies for citizen engagement in public space debates. Using radio and sound as participatory tools, it will amplify community voices and enhance the role of independent media in civic transformation.
Two 30-minute audio documentaries will be produced, accompanied by public events in Istanbul/Bursa and Milan, and supported by community radios Açık Radyo and Radio Popolare. At least 60 community members will take part across both contexts. The process will build new skills for organizations and participants, strengthen cross-border practices of active citizenship, and deepen awareness of radio as a medium for social engagement and long-term collaboration.
Shared Frequencies is created in partnership with hemsâye.
