HUB IDEA

The Interwoven Narratives engages Greek-speaking and Turkish-speaking Cypriots through four key activities that connect public spaces with personal histories. These include creating an alternative Famagusta booklet in three languages, exploring shared intangible heritage, expanding the oral history archive, and hosting a two-day event in Famagusta and Limassol with discussions, walking tours, and workshops. By integrating technology with personal narratives, the project encourages intercommunal cooperation and helps reimagine Cyprus’ shared past and future. Through these activities, partners will work together to promote understanding and cultural continuity, providing resources like the Famagusta booklet, culinary workshops, sound maps, and the “95 Kilometres – Bridging Stories” event to deepen public engagement and strengthen community bonds.

Famagusta New Museum (FNM), initiated by Yiannis Toumazis in 2016, is an active platform promoting social, cultural and environmental engagement in Famagusta. Under the motto “I Understand and Forgive the Past, I Love and Generate the Future,” FNM redefines the role of museums by enabling public discourse, artistic collaborations and participatory actions. Committed to bridging divides, it brings communities from all over Cyprus together through inclusive activities. FNM encourages volunteerism, strengthens citizenship and creates opportunities for creative synergies, envisioning a future where culture plays a key role in uniting communities and making cultural commons accessible to all.

Founded in 2007, MITOS is an initiative that presents inter-artistic and interdisciplinary programmes under the artistic curation of Elena Agathokleous. It is based in the Vinegar Factory, located in the historic centre of Limassol. MITOS presents its own artistic work through performative projects, while at the same time designing and implementing curated programmes using art as a primary social tool. It develops methodology for the role of the arts in the transformation of conflicts, and actions that encourage dialogue to reclaim public space.

The Famagusta Walled City Association (MASDER) works to preserve and promote the cultural and historical heritage of the Walled City of Famagusta. It organises cultural and artistic events, collaborates with like-minded organisations, and develops projects to enhance tourism and local engagement. Independent of political affiliations, MASDER advocates for the area’s protection, raises awareness among public bodies and donors, and secures funding for revitalisation efforts. Committed to sustainability, it also supports environmental initiatives. Through these activities, MASDER aims to establish Famagusta as a vibrant cultural hub, attracting visitors while safeguarding its rich historical and environmental assets.

TRANSNATIONAL EXCHANGE IDEA

Shifting Shores explores memory, displacement, and public space through a series of workshops, artistic productions, and public events. Five exchange workshops—led by each partner in their area of expertise—will cover oral history, sound mapping, art publishing, and participatory practices, strengthening both the partnership and the participating artists. The collaboration will result in updated interactive walks, a new sound map launched in Maribor, and the publication Shifting Shores, created during a residency in Alanya with artists from Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus. Combining field research, writing, and collective art-making, the publication will serve as a transnational archive of migration and belonging. The exchange will culminate in a closing event in Famagusta in March 2026, showcasing all outcomes and fostering dialogue on displacement, memory, and shared cultural narratives across the Mediterranean.

The collaboration will bring together partners from Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, and Slovenia to exchange methods and produce new artistic and research-based outcomes. Through workshops, residencies, and public events, the exchange will generate a collaborative publication, updated sound walks, and a new sound map—each connecting stories of displacement, memory, and belonging across regions.

Beyond these tangible results, the process will deepen transnational exchange and mutual learning among the partners, strengthening their approaches to oral history, public space practices, and publishing. It will foster accessible, multilingual, and participatory ways of engaging communities, creating a shared narrative that highlights the interconnectedness of migration, place, and collective memory.

Shifting Shores is created in collaboration with Hür Adalar and House!.
