HABBE Film Screenings
The project showcased films by women directors, highlighting women's stories and fostering meaningful discussions. Screenings in Antep and Dersim inspired audiences and strengthened women's representation in cultural production.
The project brought short films and documentaries by women directors to audiences, primarily women. These films told stories where women shared their experiences in social and cultural contexts. Three film screenings were held in Antep, where seven films were showcased. Watching the stories of women through the eyes of directors left a lasting impression on audiences. The first screening in Antep featured Diyet by Handan İpekçi and Süt ve Çikolata by Senem Tüzen. The April program included Kezi by Fatma Çelik and Li Ezmani by Özlem Güler. Fatma Taşlı Tunç, the protagonist of the Kezi documentary, attended the screening, creating a special moment for the audience. Sharing her story, Tunç inspired participants. The final screenings in Antep included Sweet Home Adana by Nagehan Uskan, Sevgili F and Seslerin İzinde by Serra Akcan and Zin Collective.
The screenings aimed to highlight the challenges faced by women directors and crew members during film production, attracting significant audience interest. While Nar Sanat organized screenings on various themes, women-directed films on women's issues drew particular attention, positively impacting audience turnout. Many attendees shared personal experiences related to the films, emphasizing how meaningful these screenings were to them. Showcasing works by women directors strongly reinforced women's representation in cultural production. This increased interest in women artists and fostered deeper connections through post-screening discussions.
In Dersim, a total of four screenings were held. The first screening, planned as a simultaneous event marking the project’s launch, featured Diyet by Handan İpekçi and Süt ve Çikolata by Senem Tüzen. However, technical issues prevented online participation for the director discussions. The second screening in Dersim showcased Paydos, a short film by Öykü Orhan, followed by a discussion with the director and the audience. This was a significant and special event as it was the first time Öykü Orhan presented Paydos in a cinema and watched her work on the big screen.
The third screening featured Prenses Model and Eve Dönüş, with the participation of Dilan Engin. Coinciding with the week of March 8, International Women’s Day, Prenses Model sparked valuable discussions for the Dersim Yenigün Women’s Solidarity Association with its themes of women’s labor and femicides. The fourth and final screening included Fotoğraf Altı and Gözün Üstümde, with Aylin Kızıl attending the event.
All the screenings in Dersim were especially valuable given the challenges of fostering cultural and artistic productions in such city conditions. They successfully brought women together through films reflecting stories similar to their own lives.
